About the OC Test Preparation
The Opportunity Class (OC) Placement Test, commonly known as the OC test, is a highly competitive assessment taken by Year 4 students in New South Wales (NSW). This exam determines placement in academically selective Year 5 Opportunity Classes, which are offered in 77 primary schools across the state. Securing a place in an Opportunity Class provides academically gifted students with an advanced learning environment, preparing them for future challenges, including the Selective School Placement Test in later years.
The OC test is fully multiple-choice and consists of three sections: Reading Test – 25 questions in 30 minutes (assesses comprehension, inference, and text analysis). Mathematical Reasoning Test – 35 questions in 40 minutes (evaluates numerical problem-solving and logical reasoning). Thinking Skills Test – 30 questions in 30 minutes (measures critical thinking, pattern recognition, and problem-solving abilities). Unlike other selective tests, the OC exam does not include a writing section.
