Selective High School Placement Test Prep
๐ What is in the Test?
The Selective High School Placement Test is a computer-based exam with 4 sections. Students take the test at external test centres, where computers are provided.
๐ Test Sections
- Reading Test: 16 questions (40 minutes) - Multiple-choice
- Mathematical Reasoning Test: 35 questions (40 minutes) - Multiple-choice
- Thinking Skills Test: 40 questions (40 minutes) - Multiple-choice
- Writing Test: 1 question (30 minutes) - Open response

The Reading Test assesses comprehension skills through various types of texts, including:

โ Mathematical Reasoning Test
The Mathematical Reasoning Test assesses studentsโ ability to apply math concepts to problem-solving.

๐ก Thinking Skills Test
This test evaluates logical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. No prior knowledge is needed.

Students will be given a topic and must write a structured response within 30 minutes. Writing will be evaluated on:

The placement tests for selective high schools and opportunity classes will move from single version paper-based tests to computer-based tests.
The Selective High School Placement Test for Year 7 entry and the Opportunity Class Placement Test for Year 5 entry. Students must sit a placement test to be considered for Year 7 placement in a selective high school or Year 5 placement in an opportunity class. No other form of academic merit is considered.
